Choose one of these fine Rothko paintings (they are also posted in our room). Then, analyze the painting and create a music composition that is inspired by the form and character of your painting.
How do we "read" a painting? Tune in to the video below:

IMPORTANT! YOUR PROJECT WILL NOT BE GRADED UNTIL IT IS SHARED TO THE PPHS MUSIC SOUNDCLOUD GROUP!
Congrats to everyone who conquered the Beat Project! Here are the results of yesterday's voting:
MASTER OF BEATS: Kyle B.
From today's class, some screenshots of your peers' Beat Projects.
Form- This example has nice FORM- it has an interesting beginning and middle, with instruments coming in and out at different times. What would you do to make the ending more interesting?
Matching your Outfits- This project (although it's hard to tell here) did a great job of matching the notes of the bass to notes in the motive.
Motive Notes: D# E B A# (repeated)
Bass Notes: D# held under the motive, then E held under the motive when it repeats
Building on your Drums- This project shows how you can take a simple idea and make it into a catchy drum track. Notice how, halfway through, a new layer of drums is added, which changes the texture big time!
Complete the form below by the end of Wednesday's (2-25-15) class.
Task: You will create a multi-layer instrumental track in Garageband. Your project must:
VOCAB TO KNOW:
Plugin- (examples- Synthmaster, Alchemy, etc.) A set of sounds or effects that you can download and "plug in" to another program like Garageband.
Motive- A catchy, short melodic line that repeats.
Quantize- A function that lines up notes you play perfectly to the beat.
Harmony/Bass- The foundation (often lower notes) over which the motive is built.
Timbre- The character, quality, intensity, thickness/thinness, brightness/darkness, etc. of a sound.
Tracks should be CLEAR, BALANCED, and PROFESSIONAL sounding!
