How are you doing on your beat project? Fill out and submit the form below. From today's class, some screenshots of your peers' Beat Projects. Form- This example has nice FORM- it has an interesting beginning and middle, with instruments coming in and out at different times. What would you do to make the ending more interesting? Matching your Outfits- This project (although it's hard to tell here) did a great job of matching the notes of the bass to notes in the motive. Motive Notes: D# E B A# (repeated) Bass Notes: D# held under the motive, then E held under the motive when it repeats Building on your Drums- This project shows how you can take a simple idea and make it into a catchy drum track. Notice how, halfway through, a new layer of drums is added, which changes the texture big time!
Complete the form below by the end of Wednesday's (2-25-15) class. Task: You will create a multi-layer instrumental track in Garageband. Your project must:
VOCAB TO KNOW: Plugin- (examples- Synthmaster, Alchemy, etc.) A set of sounds or effects that you can download and "plug in" to another program like Garageband. Motive- A catchy, short melodic line that repeats. Quantize- A function that lines up notes you play perfectly to the beat. Harmony/Bass- The foundation (often lower notes) over which the motive is built. Timbre- The character, quality, intensity, thickness/thinness, brightness/darkness, etc. of a sound. Here are the pieces you will be tested on this week.
Tracks should be CLEAR, BALANCED, and PROFESSIONAL sounding!

***You may NOT go to your friend's recording studio and lay down a track. The point of this project is for you to become the recording engineer and producer, not someone else who is a professional! Some Ideas to Get You Started:You do not have to sing or rap for this project! You may record almost anything.
